This course has been designed to provide learners with an increased level of awareness in relation to the potential health risks associated with the incorrect set up and organisation of computer workstations

Objectives

  • Define the terms DSE and workstation
  • Understand the ill health effects associated with a poorly designed workstation
  • Recognise the benefits of good ergonomics
  • Describe how poor posture contributes to musculoskeletal issues
  • Outline why regular breaks away from the work station are an essential component of good musculoskeletal health
  • Explain the steps to be taken in carrying out a DSE assessment including the correct positioning of:

    • Chair

    • Screen

    • Keyboard

    • Mouse

    • Work surface

  • Recognise the hazards associated with portable equipment, for example, laptops, tablets and phones
