This course has been designed to provide participants with an increased level of awareness when handling chemicals in the workplace. It will assist employees in interacting safely with chemicals and provide a basic knowledge of the controls necessary to minimise exposure to hazardous substances in the work environment. The legal responsibilities of the employer and the employee are outlined together with the requirement to carry out chemical risk assessments in the workplace.Routes of entry and health effects of working with hazardous substances are discussed and suitable control measures are introduced in order to enable the employee to work safely with chemicals.The legal requirement for correct labelling of chemicals, the significance of hazard pictograms and the provision of safety data sheets are examined with a view to promoting safe practices in the work environment. The training course, which is divided into four units, is delivered online and takes approximately 30 minutes to complete. Who is the Course for? The course is suitable for employees of all levels who have the potential to be exposed to hazardous substances as they carry out their workplace duties. Course Aim The aim of this course is to provide participants with an awareness of safe working procedures when handling chemicals in the workplace Learning Outcomes At the end of the course participants will be able to: Identify the legislation relating to chemicals in the workplace Explain the various forms that chemicals can take List the routes of entry for chemicals Describe the adverse health effects of exposure to hazardous chemicals Recognise hazard pictograms Explain the importance of chemical labelling and safety data sheets Outline how to carry out a chemical risk assessment Understand the hierarchy of control Recognise safe working practices On completion of the course students are required to complete an end of course Quiz consisting of 20 multiple choice style questions. You will have 2 attempts to complete the Quiz and must achieve 80% or above in this assessment in order to achieve your certification. Read more
